The clockmaker before the wristwatch label
The maker’s history describes Christiaan van der Klaauw opening his atelier in 1974 with an astronomical clock, and dates the Planetarium wristwatch to 1999. Begin with the instrument rather than the anniversary. A clockmaker’s career and a later wristwatch enterprise are related subjects, but they are not interchangeable founding records. Ask what sort of information the earlier object was intended to organise, then ask what a wristwatch changes about the encounter: scale, portability and the reader’s available attention. The history becomes more engaging when those questions stay visible. This profile follows the astronomical theme into named modern references without assigning every clock the founder ever made to one category. It also keeps the founder’s work separate from the people who later developed the enterprise.
Evidence: History
Succession is part of the technical story
The history dates the founder’s retirement and Daniël and Maria Reintjes’s succession to 2009. It records Pim Koeslag acquiring a majority stake on 1 June 2022 and becoming CEO in May 2023, then the Reintjeses’ farewell in January 2025. Those dated statements do not disclose a complete present cap table. Keep each event on its own line. A majority stake, an executive appointment and a departure tell different parts of the story. Together they let a reader ask who directed a particular development without treating the founder as an eternal operator of every current model. For a later corporate question, seek the legal record that names its own entity and date. A narrative can describe documented succession and still leave exact investor percentages unknown. That is a boundary of the evidence, not an invitation to guess the missing shares.

Planetarium: three jobs on one wrist
Current Planetarium CKPT3304 combines hours and minutes, date and month, and a heliocentric display of Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter and Saturn. Its automatic manufacture movement has a stated maximum 60-hour reserve. Compare the documented indications before admiring their combination. Use a different colour for each job on a paper sketch. Which job answers the question you usually ask a watch? Which invites a longer look? The sketch should make it possible to describe the instrument without relying on the apparent resemblance of the display to a sky chart. A useful interpretation begins with what the maker says is represented and with the particular reference. It then asks how the arrangement encourages the wearer to move between ordinary appointments and a much longer horizon.

A long horizon does not make every figure the same kind of precision
For CKPT3304, the maker lists Earth’s represented period as 365.24 days and Saturn’s as 29.46 years. It identifies the dial material as aventurine glass, or goldfluss. Those two periods invite a patient kind of reading. Imagine writing a diary entry about each display rather than expecting each to deliver a visibly new scene every morning. Keep the representation’s intended period separate from a measured result for the watch’s daily timekeeping. A numerical specification should be recorded with the thing it describes; the mere presence of a large number does not tell you which question it answers. The same care applies to materials: use the documented name before trying to translate a sparkling appearance into a geological identity. Precision in a reader’s notes begins with naming the subject of the claim.

The 2021 Eise Eisinga is a distinct reference
The maker records the Planetarium Eise Eisinga winning the Calendar and Astronomy category at GPHG in November 2021. It specifies automatic CVDK7386, twin barrels and a maximum 96-hour reserve for that watch. This differs from the current CKPT3304’s stated 60-hour reserve. Keep the model name beside the figure when comparing generations. The documented award recognises its Calendar and Astronomy category; it does not supply a measured daily rate. A historical card and a current card can both be accurate while showing different technical choices. If the numbers seem to disagree, first check whether they actually describe the same movement and watch. That habit is especially helpful in an evolving family whose familiar astronomical theme can outlast changes to the mechanism carrying it.

Grand Planetarium: an expanded mechanical model
The 2024 Grand Planetarium Eccentric Manufacture CKGP1104 represents eight planets, adding Uranus and Neptune. Its named movement uses a jeweled Swiss-lever escapement at 3 Hz, with a stated 60-hour reserve; the maker lists Neptune’s represented period as 164.80 years. The development account connects the founder’s earlier clock concept, Reintjes design work and Koeslag’s engineering. This is an opportunity to read collaboration through a concrete instrument. Ask which idea is inherited, which visual problem is redesigned and which engineering work makes the contemporary object possible. Avoid turning that sequence into an isolated discoverer story. The eight-planet specification belongs to this reference; it should not be carried backward to every Planetarium. Likewise, the long represented period invites a question about the astronomical model, while the movement frequency belongs to a different technical description. Put them in separate rows so their impressive numbers do not blur together.
Real Moon: read the long-horizon claim carefully
Real Moon Joure CKRJ3324 displays a three-dimensional Moon. The maker gives a 29.530588853-day cycle and a claimed one-day deviation over 11,000 years. Its since-2013 manual explains new Moon and waxing or waning appearances. NASA distinguishes the approximately 29.5-day new-Moon-to-new-Moon cycle from the Moon’s approximately 27.3-day orbital revolution. The claim concerns a phase-display relationship; it is not an observed 11,000-year running test, a daily rate certificate or a promise to avoid all future setting. Write the extraordinary number down, then ask what quantity it describes and under what assumptions it would be useful. The exercise is not to dismiss the claim, but to give it the right job. A display can make a long cycle intelligible while an owner still needs a model-specific instruction book and a record of how the watch has been kept.

Read the revision before touching a control
The manual directory separates Planetarium instructions for watches up to 2012 from those since 2013. In the latter English instructions, calendar adjustment requires specified safe time windows and advances the planets with the calendar. The since-2013 Real Moon Joure manual assigns Moon and time setting to different crown positions. Both manuals discourage swimming and showering with these watches. That is enough to show why a familiar name is not a universal setting instruction. Before operating an unfamiliar control, identify the reference and confirm that the manual revision applies. Keep its complete sequence available rather than relying on a remembered fragment from an article. If the identity or condition is uncertain, bring that uncertainty to the maker or a qualified service professional. Owner education starts by finding the right document; this profile deliberately stops short of becoming a substitute operating manual.

A place of work is not a full manufacturing audit
The maker’s atelier page locates its present workshop in Het Arsenaal, Naarden. Put that place beside the historical and model records. Ask what an atelier visit would let you observe and what would still require another document. A founder’s surname can encourage the reader to imagine a personal continuity; test that impression against the dated succession already described. Keep the place, the people and the exact reference together in your notes, while allowing each record to answer its own question.

Reader exercise: give each display its own question
CKPT3304 represents six planetary orbits; CKRJ3324 instead provides a three-dimensional lunar display. These are separate references. Draw three boxes labelled daily time, calendar and astronomical representation. Select one exact reference and place each documented indication in its box. Next write a question beneath each: what would I use this for, what document identifies it and what would I need to measure before calling it accurate? If one box is empty, leave it empty. Add the revision of the matching manual and a note about whether you have confirmed the watch’s identity. Finish by writing a short caption in your own words that explains why the combination interests you. The caption should describe the reading experience without adding an unverified sky-view, navigation or performance claim.
