Brand ancestry and a modern rebirth have separate dates

Vulcain's timeline places its ancestry in the Manufacture Ditisheim at La Chaux-de-Fonds in 1858 and records the Fabrique Vulcain name in 1898. It places Cricket in 1947, Nautical in 1961 and a rebirth at Le Locle in 2002. These markers connect a historical name with successive projects and a modern restart. They do not establish that the present operator is the same legal entity as every earlier organisation in the story.

The published chronology is useful when its claims remain dated. The restart is part of the history, not an inconvenience to conceal behind the earliest year. It also leaves individual founder roles unresolved where the selected body does not identify them precisely. The result is a more concrete narrative: a name with nineteenth-century ancestry, a significant alarm-watch chapter and a stated modern revival, each requiring its own evidence rather than a single uninterrupted-lineage assertion.

Evidence: History of Vulcain

An alarm needs an acoustic path as well as a movement

The manufacture page explains the Cricket alarm through a hammer acting on a pin and describes the exterior caseback as part of the resonance arrangement. The sound therefore involves a relationship between the moving mechanism and the surrounding case, rather than a movement considered in isolation. Its Exactomatic account describes changes to the balance's endstones intended to equalise friction at the balance axis across positions. These are maker explanations of design intentions, without independent acoustic or rate measurements here.

Two different forms of control sit together in this account. The alarm turns stored energy into an audible event, while the regulating construction concerns the consistency of the oscillator's conditions. A name attached to one feature does not prove the outcome of the other. The caseback's role also explains why an acoustic watch deserves study as a complete object: enclosing a mechanism can contribute to its function. This reading identifies the architecture described by Vulcain.

Functional documentation separates winding, timing and setting

The readable instructions distinguish Cricket's winding actions for the alarm and the timekeeping movement. Other sections describe chronograph controls and a GMT indication, showing that the site's watch catalogue contains different operating arrangements. That is useful documentary evidence of functional variety. The visible alarm-setting passage is incomplete, so it is not converted here into a sequence a reader should perform.

This distinction gives the alarm concept more depth. A watch may have energy available for one task while the other task has its own requirement; the dial alone need not reveal the whole relationship. At the same time, instructions for a chronograph cannot be transferred to an alarm watch because they share a brand. The public HTML body supports discussion of these functional boundaries, rather than a reconstructed universal procedure. Reading it alongside a product specification brings the mechanism closer to use while preserving the difference between explaining a design and operating an unfamiliar specimen.

Nautical Heritage connects an alarm with an unusually deep case

The selected Nautical Heritage Black Beige Patina reference identifies hand-wound V10 with two barrels, Exactomatic and a stated fifty-two-hour reserve. Its steel version uses a triple caseback described as resonating, and the dial carries a decompression scale. The page gives a forty-two-millimetre diameter and a substantial case thickness. These features make the case and dial part of the specific model's identity.

The design invites two different readings: an acoustic construction and a display carrying specialised information. Keeping them separate is important because the presence of a scale does not establish its applicability to a person's circumstances, and a resonating caseback does not establish audibility under every condition. The product page offers steel and alternative caseback configurations, so the actual variant must stay attached to its description. The reference gives the Nautical story a tangible construction while preventing the model's historical associations from becoming a performance claim about every Cricket watch.

Cricket President presents the alarm in a restrained dial

The Cricket President Black page specifies the hand-wound V10 with two barrels and names Exactomatic. It describes 165 components, twenty-five jewels and a stated fifty-two-hour reserve. The black dial uses applied numerals and dauphine hands, while the page offers different sizes and caseback choices. Those details identify a contemporary product presentation.

A restrained display can conceal an unusual relationship between energy and sound. This makes Cricket interesting without needing an endorsement story: its alarm is a functional distinction that can be examined alongside the visible time indications. The variant options also caution against building a single imaginary specification from several configurations. A steel back and a sapphire alternative should remain separate choices in a reference record. The study follows the stated architecture and keeps personal ownership stories outside it.

Skindiver GMT names a different movement supplier

The Black Luminova Beige Skindiver GMT page explicitly dates the model's launch to 18 June 2025 and names the automatic Soprod C125 GMT. It describes an independently adjustable twenty-four-hour hand, a bidirectional ceramic bezel and a date. Its case specification gives a diameter of 38.3 millimetres and a thickness of 12.2 millimetres. These are model-page claims at the reading date.

The named supplied movement is important evidence about the breadth of the current catalogue. An account of Cricket's alarm construction cannot be applied to this GMT simply because both dials say Vulcain. Even an independently adjustable hand does not, by itself, establish the behaviour of every other setting control; the exact manual matters. This model therefore contributes a dated modern chapter and a specific supplier designation while leaving the wider ownership and component-production questions unresolved.

Monopusher identifies another route to a chronograph

Monopusher Black reference 650167A08.BHM288 names the hand-wound Sellita SW510 M MP b. Its single pusher sits at two o'clock, with small seconds at nine, a thirty-minute counter at three and central chronograph seconds. The dial includes a pulsometer scale based on thirty pulses. The page specifies a fifty-eight-hour reserve. This movement and display belong to the selected reference; they are not descriptions of Cricket's V10 or of every watch in the current Vulcain range.

A single control gives the chronograph a recognisable arrangement, while the subsidiary indications explain what is being counted. The model page also contains an origin passage inconsistent with the separate historical timeline; that passage is left outside the admitted narrative rather than repaired by inference. The named movement specification remains useful on its own terms. It shows how a revived catalogue can combine historical visual references with an explicitly identified contemporary supplied mechanism.

Grand Prix closes the catalogue with a simpler display

The champagne-dial Grand Prix reference 670171A70.BAN249 specifies automatic Landeron L24 with hours, minutes and central seconds. It gives a thirty-nine-millimetre steel case, a domed sunburst dial and a double-domed sapphire crystal. Its stated reserve is forty hours. This time-only arrangement is a useful counterpart to the alarm, GMT and chronograph examples: the collection name alone does not indicate that a watch contains one of Vulcain's more unusual complications.

The profile's movement map is consequently more varied than the Cricket story by itself suggests. A reader can distinguish a described alarm construction from a named Soprod GMT, a Sellita chronograph and this Landeron automatic without treating suppliers as owners of the brand. Present legal entity and share ownership remain unestablished by the bodies used here. That limit belongs alongside the positive model evidence: the catalogue is documented at the level of particular watches, while unresolved organisational questions retain their own place.

An original reference-card exercise

Choose one reference discussed above and make three columns: visible indications, named movement and unresolved evidence. Put only a source pointer in each factual cell, so that a later update can be checked against the same document.

Then compare it with one linked study. Record the question that makes the comparison useful, rather than ranking the houses. Keep a separate blank for the evidence you would need before answering a question about a particular physical watch.
