1991 partnership, 1992 foundation and model dates remain distinct. Founder/CEO roles do not supply a share register. Crazy Hours interpretation and the Mauritius setting retain manufacturer attribution; Hom Nguyen specifications are version-specific. Read dated sources for the precise reference and claim.

Partnership and foundation dates
Franck Muller’s identity emerged from the meeting of a watchmaker and a specialist in the exterior of watches. The maison’s history places Franck Muller’s meeting with Vartan Sirmakes in 1991; a dated company press release gives 1992 as the brand’s foundation. These statements can coexist without forcing a false choice: the partnership formed around 1991 and the maison uses 1992 as its founding year in that corporate document. It is a modern business, not a revived nineteenth-century name.

Founders and the ownership limit
The founders brought complementary experience. Muller pursued complex mechanical wristwatches; Sirmakes trained in jewel setting and developed a watchcase business before their collaboration. The official founders’ page identifies Sirmakes as co-founder and group chief executive at the source check on 5 October 2026. That supports his stated role, but it does not disclose a current ownership percentage or provide a complete shareholder register. An editorial profile should preserve that limit rather than infer that the original partners still own equal stakes.

Cintrée Curvex and visual identity
The Cintrée Curvex case is central to the house’s visual contribution. The manufacturer dates its introduction to 1992 and emphasizes its three-dimensional curvature. A curved tonneau case requires the dial and exterior components to work together; the characteristic stretched numerals reinforce the sense that the display has been shaped to inhabit the case. The company describes the design as unprecedented, but there is no need to repeat that expansive historical claim. Its recognizable combination of curvature, numerals and color is a more useful subject than an unsupported assertion that earlier watchmaking had no comparable forms.

Crazy Hours and a familiar convention
Crazy Hours, introduced in 2003, turns that recognizable language into a small act of misdirection. The hour numerals appear out of sequence, but the hour hand jumps to the correct one while the minute hand follows the normal sixty-minute circuit. The maison explains that successive hour numerals are separated by approximately 150 degrees. The display looks disordered because a familiar circular convention has been rearranged; the mechanism is doing the work required to keep the actual reading coherent. It is a useful example of a complication changing an everyday encounter with time rather than multiplying calendar information.

The Hom Nguyen collaboration
A specific contemporary example is the Vanguard Crazy Hours Hom Nguyen, including stainless-steel reference V 41 CH HN LTD (BC), as described on the official page checked on 5 October 2026. The collaboration uses hand-drawn hour numerals and a bidirectional automatic movement with a stated 42-hour reserve. The release identifies 41, 43 and 45 mm versions across the collection, with editions of 50 or 100 depending on finish; it does not justify treating every size and material as the same edition. The artist’s contribution makes the dial’s apparent spontaneity particularly apt, because a deliberate mechanical sequence sits underneath the expressive drawing.

An attributed holiday origin story
There is a documented origin story, but it should be told at its actual strength. Franck Muller’s own fifteenth-anniversary account says the idea came to its founder while he was on holiday in Mauritius. That supports the holiday setting. It does not support invented dialogue, a scene with a waiter, or a detailed explanation of his private thoughts. The mechanism itself supplies enough humor: the hour hand repeatedly takes a route that the eye initially expects to be wrong, and still arrives at the correct number.

Follow the hour and minute separately
Begin with the minute hand's familiar circuit, then follow the hour hand to the number it selects. Describe the sequence before calling the dial random: visual surprise and mechanical order can coexist. Sketch the two hand paths with a plain circle and simple labels. Finally label the exact reference and finish when recording reserve or edition size. The collaboration's several versions are part of the source context, not permission to combine their specifications into one imagined watch.
