Historical China-trade company and modern manufacture are distinct. Raffy's dated acquisitions and manufacturer-named owner remain scoped; model-specific transformations and seasonal-time claims are not universal or future-law guarantees. Read dated sources for the precise reference and claim.

People, trade and the 1822 company
Bovet’s historical identity begins with Édouard Bovet and his brothers’ nineteenth-century trade in watches for China. A brand-published historical study places Édouard’s journey to Guangzhou in 1818 and describes a network linking Swiss production, London commerce and Chinese customers. The Swiss Historical Dictionary records the creation in 1822 of the brothers’ company for trade with China. The safest account therefore distinguishes the people, trading network and historical date from any assertion that today’s legal entity has operated unchanged since 1822.

The modern industrial chapter
The modern manufacture is inseparable from Pascal Raffy’s stewardship. In his introduction to the same historical publication, Raffy dates his acquisition of Bovet to 2001. He identifies the 2006 acquisitions of the Dimier movement and dial manufactures, together with the Château de Môtiers, as central to building the contemporary operation. That is the relevant modern industrial chapter: historical inspiration was joined to new manufacturing capacity. The current Récital 28 page identifies Raffy as owner, which supports that description at the October 2026 source check without requiring a claim about every intermediate corporate transaction.

Amadéo and compatible transformations
Bovet’s design identity is unusually concerned with how a watch is displayed and used away from the wrist. The Amadéo system, which the maison dates to a 2010 patent, allows compatible watches to become a pocket watch or table clock and to be worn on either face without tools. Its reverse hand-fitting approach permits indications on both sides of one calibre. These systems make the pocket-watch inheritance functional rather than merely decorative: the case is a transformable object, and the second face can have an actual purpose. This capability belongs to compatible Amadéo models, not automatically to every Bovet.

Récital 28 and seasonal time
For a technical study, the Récital 28 Prowess 1 is especially instructive. The official specification checked on 5 October 2026 describes a hand-wound movement with a 240-hour reserve, a perpetual calendar and world-time rollers in a 46.3 × 17.85 mm sloping “Writing Desk” case. The selectable seasonal positions are UTC, American Summer Time, European and American Summer Time, and European Winter Time. Bovet presents this as a solution to mismatched daylight-saving schedules. That claim should remain attributed to the manufacturer: it is not a guarantee of compatibility with every jurisdiction’s future legislation, every fractional time zone or every subsequent change to civil time.

A political convention made visible
The watch makes a useful editorial point. World time is a political convention as well as an astronomical relationship. A beautiful ring of cities cannot by itself make governments change their clocks together. Bovet’s roller display gives physical form to that problem, turning a usually invisible limitation into a mechanism the owner can select. It is an example of complication design responding to the messy organization of daily life, rather than simply adding another indication.

A documented Boat Tail collaboration
A documented extension of the convertible idea appeared in Bovet’s Rolls-Royce Boat Tail collaboration. In a release dated 21 March 2022, Bovet describes two bespoke watches designed to serve on the wrist, as pocket or pendant watches, as desk clocks and in the car’s dashboard. The company says development took three years. The interesting story is the need to connect personal timekeeping with a vehicle interior; the release’s more extravagant “never before” language is unnecessary.

Read the time scheme and the object separately
Make two columns for a world-time watch: the display's mechanical choices and the civil-time rules those choices are intended to represent. Place Bovet's four seasonal positions in the first column, then retain the manufacturer's limits beside them. A mechanism can respond to a convention without controlling it. Next separate an Amadéo model's documented transformations from its decoration. A second face, pocket format or desk position should have a named function; the shared brand name alone does not establish compatibility.
